Smith is the double OO7 of the name world. Originally smith was a job and those that held the job were smiths. The smith was the metal worker, allowed by the king to make weapons such as swords. Hence, you were only licensed to make weapons if you were an official smither of metals allowed by the king. Thus only smiths were "licensed" to make weapons. To smith means to strike or smite the metal.
